COMMENTS: Something of a "sleeper" lens, the EF 35/2 doesn't get a lot of attention, but it's a very good lens at a reasonable price. It's pretty sharp wide open and very sharp when stopped down, much like the 50/1.8. Edge to edge sharpness is good. This isn't a USM lens and the standard AFD motor is noisy, similar to the 50/1.8. You can certainly hear it "whir" into focus. This may be a distraction for those who have been spoiled by silent USM lenses! On an APS-C DLSR this lens is close to a "normal" lens giving the same FOV as a 56mm lens on a full frame camera.
