COMMENTS: Discontinued in mid-2003, this was widely regarded as one of the best lenses Canon have ever made. Very sharp and very fast, ideal for low-light sports work and candid portraits. I don't know why it was discontinued, perhaps because the number of people who could really use it was small and so maybe it didn't sell to well. The price was around $4000, so I think a lot of people probably bought the 200/2.8L USM for around $650 instead.
