COMMENTS: The original 50mm f1.8 lens, with a metal lens mount, distance scale and seperate manual focus ring (all of which the current version lack). The current Mk II version shares the same optics and has the same optical performance, but the original version is better built. The advantages of the Mk II are that it's easy to find, cheaper, lighter and it possibly focuses a little faster. Either one is the best "bang for the buck" you can find in an EOS lens. If you are using the 50/1.8 on an APS-C DSLR, the ET-65 II hood (for the EF75-300) fits and is a better match. On full frame cameras it will cause vignetting.
