COMMENTS: Good optics at a reasonable price. Certainly an alternative to the cheaper and slower (and more limited zoom range) Canon EF-S 18-55/3.5-5.6 "kit" lens. The apertures change as you zoom as follows:17-20mm f2.8 ; 21-24mm f3.2 ; 25-34mm f3.5 ; 35-54mm f4.0 ; 55-70mm f4.5 It has a wider zoom range than the f2.8 constant aperture zooms (17/18-50/55) and it's faster than the Canon EF-S 17-85IS, plus the price is lower than either. It doesn't have IS or USM, but then you can't have everything! The almost 1/2 lifsize (0.43x) "macro" performance may also be a plus.
