COMMENTS: This is the original 100mm f2.8 macro lens, with a conventional 9AFD) focusing motor. The current version is a different optical design and has a USM motor (and a larger filter size). It's a very good lens with excellent optics but focusing isn't as fast as the current USM lens and isn't as quiet, and of course you don't hav efull time manual focusing, so you have to switch from AF to MF if you want to focus manually (as is often done for macro work). Note that Canon do not specify a hood for this lens. In fact they don't specify a hood for the EF 50mm f2.5 macro either.
