COMMENTS: This lens is available in Europe right now and should (according to my Canon contacts) be available in the USA sometime in early 2008. This lens has the new low-cost Image Stabilization (IS) mechanism which Canon claim can provide 4-stop compensation for image blur caused by camera shake. Note that, like the EF-S 18-55, the 55-250 has a plastic lensmount.
