COMMENTS: Widely regarded as one of the best lenses Canon makes at any price. Very sharp, fast, high contrast lens. Solid "L" series construction with fast USM focus. This lens takes both the 1.4x and 2x TCs to give a 189/2.8 and a 270/4 lens with full autofocus. A great lens for both sports and portraits with it's large aperture and consequent good low light performance and ability to blur backgrounds. On an APS-C camera it gives the FOV of a 216mm f2 lens on a full frame camera, again a good lens for sports and wildlife shooting. With 1.4x and 2x TCs it's the equivalent of a 302/2.8 and a 432/4 on a full frame camera! This may be the best glass you can buy for $1000 and is comparable in quality to the best and most expensive lenses made by anyone at any price.
