COMMENTS: One of Canon's lowest priced "L" series lenses and an excellent performer. I think this lens is somewhat neglected due to the excellent 70-200/2.8L and 70-200/2.8L IS lenses which are more versatile, but which are double the price or more. The 200/2.8L is smaller, lighter and cheaper and probably works better with the Canon 1.4x and 2x TCs. There are two versions which differ only in the nature of the lens hood. The original version had a short, built-in, hood, while the Mk II version has a longer, detachable hood. Optically they are the same.
