| NOTES: EF-S 17-85/3.5-5.6 IS USM Review | |
|
COMMENTS: On an APS-C DSLR this is a close analog of the EF 28-135/3.5-5.6 IS USM on a full frame camera. Since it is an EF-S mount lens, it won't fit full frame cameras of course. Optically it's pretty good, quite similar to the well regarded EF 28-135 IS. Distortion at 17mm is significant, but that's easily corrected in software. The focal length range is very useful and the 3-stop improvement in "handholdability" given by the 2nd generation IS system is very effective indeed. This lens is probably the best "one lens" solution for APS-C DSLR owners who want to cover the wideangle to short telephoto range in a single lens.
