COMMENTS:

This is Canon's premium lens in the wide to short tele range. It's fast, sharp, fully weather sealed and, of course, expensive. However it does cover a very useful range from 24mm to 70mm. Many earlier similar lenses were 28mm at their widest setting, so the 24mm of this lens is a significant enhancement.

It's a good lens for general purpose use on a full frame camera and it makes an excellent companion to the EF-S 10-22 on APS-C DSLRs. Add something like an EF 70-200/2.8L IS for the long end of the range and you've got a lens system that would be hard to beat.
