| NOTES: EF 70-300/4-5.6 IS USM Review | |
|
COMMENTS: This is a new lens from Canon, released in the fall of 2005. It replaced the EF 75-300/4-5.6 IS USM but the differences are more than just an extra 5mm at the wide end. Optical performance was significantly improved via a slightly new optical design and by using a low dispersion lens element. The IS was also upgraded and now offers about 3 stops of extra "handholdability" (the older lens had 2), plus a panning mode. I think this lens is one of the best bargins in good quality telephoto zooms. The construction is fair, though the lens would benefit from a ring USM rather than the micro USM, but the optics now rate as good.
