COMMENTS: The EF 24/2.8 was one of Canon's original EOS lenses. As such it doesn't have a USM motor, but instead it has the older AFD drive, which is a little noisy (by USM standards anything is noisy!). In terms of image quality it's not all that different from zooms like the 16-35/2.8L and 17-40/4L, but it's a lot smaller, lighter and cheaper of course. It also takes a smaller 58mm filter. I actually use the 24/2.8 as a "standard" lens on my EOS 20D. It has the same FOV as a 38mm lens on a full frame camera which is a "wide normal"
