COMMENTS: This lens (now discontinued) was Canon's first Image Stabilized lens. I owned one for many years and found it a very useful lens, though it was a little soft wide open at 300mm. It was replaced in 2005 by the EF 70-300/4-5.6 IS USM which significantly improved both the optical performance and the Image Sabilization system. The new lens is more expensive, but worth the extra cost.
